A presentation of The Psalmus Humanus Association for Arts Education
Our professional team has been working together for over
half a decade and was officially registered as a civil organiza-
tion in the autumn of 2oo2. The members of the association
are highly-qualified professionals representing a wide area
of arts education. Most of us are music teachers based in the
capital, still nearly all with additional postgraduate degrees
in either educational or art fields, representing a wide range
of institutions, from kindergartens to universities.
Principal of the Association
Our common activity started following a series of successful
for Arts Education
applications: 1998, April 1999, September 1999.
In 2000 we published a book in the history of music teaching, Katalin K. Udvari:
„Psalmus Humanus” Music Primary School in Kecskemét, 1950. (Püski Publishing).
Psalmus Humanus arts education programme theoretically elaborated in the above
mentioned applications was presented to a board of renowned professionals at the
turn of 2000-2001.
Our professional team was officially formed into an association in the spring of 2002.
Before becoming widely known in Hungary, the Psalmus Humanus project was pre-
sented abroad at the world conference organized in Bergen, Norway by the Interna-
tional Society for Music Education (ISME) between 11-16 August, 2002.
In the spring of 2002 we put forward a proposal to the Hungarian Duna Television
for a documentary on art education.
The principal of the association introduced Psalmus Humanus art education pro-
gramme at the international conference of musicology announced by the Hungarian
Kodály Society.
The documentary with the title Psalmus Huma nus „The trunk remains but it gets new
leaves” (Zoltán Kodály) was broadcast on September 2, the same year.
Psalmus Humanus programme was summarised in Katalin K. Udvari’s book, „Psal-
mus Humanus” Tradition and Innovation in Kodály’s Art Education (Püski Publishing).
On December 14, 2002 we organized a large-scale children’s concert completed with
a book presentation.
