The Rays of the Music Academy. Symbol and Example
The Academy of Music is the highest-level institution of Hungarian musical educa-
tion and idealistic and excessive as it may sound for me it is like a sun in the sky of
Hungarian music teaching. Naturally there are planets revolving around it, but the
light comes from here. The energy needed for this is the musical talent, this innate
gift from which this country poor in natural resources has so generously benefited.
It would take us several minutes to list the names as evidence from Ferenc Liszt to
Gergely Bogányi, from Miklós Hubay to Barnabás Kelemen. They are the most glar-
ing rays of the Music Academy. I am convinced that any parent who has his child
study music is secretly lured by the thought that one day he might become a great
musician, he might be the chosen one …
