                                       Schools Association

The Place and Role of Art School in National Public Education,
                             Special Focus on Music Education
The music school movement was initiated and systematically built up in Hungary
by the musicians Jenő Ádám, Károly Váci, and other professionals in the 1950s. The
concept of the movement was to form schools of music in each county town first,
then in each city, and finally in each settlement in order to form a network of music
schools meant to encourage and develop musical talent. This idea was later altered
so it did not limit efforts to just developing the musical talents manifested, but
instead made it possible for children to enrol in music schools before their talent
became apparent. Later, in accord with the Education Act and implicit in several
international agreements stating ”any Hungarian child has the right to be recognized
his/her talents and skills,” these talents could be developed in 75 art subjects of four
               different art fields.
