Howard Gardner, professor at Harvard University keeps asking governments what
they have in mind when they stuff schools with the verbal syllabus meant to be
forgotten. It is proven that in five years’ time even a prize pupil forgets 75% of
what he has learned if he does not use it daily. They cram students’ heads with this
knowledge instead of allowing them time for art activities.
But of course we do not need to refer to Gardner, we can note domestic examples,
we can quote Kodály for instance, and the music primaries initiated by him together
with Márta Nemesszeghy.

How Can the Computer be Used in Learning Music?
Is it possible to reconcile music with the computer? Is it true that synthesizers are only
good for interpreting light music? Is is true that the computer leads to a simplistic
taste in music? Is it wise, or rather, is it possible to ignore the digital revolution in
music schools? How can digital tools be incorporated into the everyday life of music
schools?
Digital tools do not seem to drive out traditional instruments from schools; on the
contrary, complemented with the latter, they open new opportunities in the field of
music teaching as well. There are several ways they can facilitate teaching and can
make our daily routine more efficient. Just to name a few of them, in the practise of
a musical instrument at home in a block of flats, in music school class activities, in
both the individual and group tasks of solfege and music theory lessons.
